Boondocking

After a couple of days in the state park, it was time to do some boondocking. Found a relatively remote section where I established my base camp.

Aside from the occasional OHV (off highway vehicle) and “plinkers” (people target shooting with everything from pistols to automatic rifles) it was pleasant and gave me time to recharge.
Took strolls up into the hills, read, listened to music and visited LH for 12 days.

Lots of rain and cloudy days so needed to recharge everything as well as replenish my water supply.

Returned to LH State Park for 4 days where I could empty the trailer, plug into electricity and have running water (read: real showers!) and other comforts of “civilization”. Got a site right on the Lake and enjoyed the boats, waterfowl, sunsets and views of the lighthouses.

LH has a club which has built many replica lighthouses from around the country, including this one from Buffalo, NY.

[Dave & Co., if you get out to Buffalo, and assuming it is still there, can you get a picture of the actual lighthouse for comparison?].

Invested in a GoPhone from AT&T so I now have a portable router (read: portable hotspot) so I can have affordable internet access, compared to the ridiculous  roaming packages that Telus offers ($25 for 50 min of phone, 150 emails, and 50MB of data). Only $50 a month for 5GB of data, and when I downloaded the Whatsapp app for free international texting for a year (thanks Jen), Now I have an inexpensive way to keep in touch with everyone.

  2. I may have seen the lighthouse when I did the Erie Canal bike trip in 2013, but I don't remember for sure. Will snap a pic if we make it out that way again.
